Creatieve Makers: Statement

Creatieve Makers is an initiative from KU Leuven and LUCA School of Arts to create a trans‑disciplinary collective practice between architects, engineers and artists. The aim is to future‑proof our disciplines over the coming years by fostering collaboration between students and professionals from different backgrounds.

Defining what the project can be, based on the diverse backgrounds and skills of the students, is an important part of the challenge. The requests serve as inspiration rather than prescriptive assignments. Students are encouraged to explore and develop ideas up to the prototype or demo level, giving them freedom to interpret and shape the proposed topics in their own way.

External partners are invited to witness the results of this exploratory inquiry at the final presentations. While there is no direct feedback loop during the semester, the deliverables can serve as input or starting points for future implementations. The core of the elective is that students from different disciplines collaborate on a challenging project. It is a space for experimentation, where the process is at least as important as the end result.
